Obituary of Edwin Norman Mattila Flint Edwin N. Mattila, 96, a resident of Flint and former Detroit and Atlantic Mine, MI, resident passed away October 19, 2017, in Flint. He was born on March 9, 1921, in Atlantic Mine, a son of the late Sam and Hannah (Oja) Mattila. Mr. Mattila was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II where he was a Purple Heart recipient. Mr. Mattila was a self-employed Upholsterer for many years. Preceding him in death were his parents, siblings Carl Mattila, Tyne Wiinamaki, Alfred Mattila, Amelia Norkol, Walter Mattila and Alina Manninen. Surviving are: His niece: Tootsie Waggoner of Overland Park, KS His nephews: Robert (Viola) Norkol of Hancock Thomas (Nancy) Wiinamaki of Flint Several great nieces and nephews Funeral services for Edwin will be held 1 pm Saturday, October 28, 2017, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. DJ Rasner to officiate. Burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery where military honors will be held. Friends may call on Saturday, October 28, 2017, from 11 am until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral home of Hancock.
