Obituary of Eleanor Cecelia Sauvola Houghton/Chassell Eleanor C. Sauvola, 79, a resident of Houghton and former Chassell resident, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 28, 1939, in Chassell, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Cecilia (Beauchamp) Colombe. On September 6, 1958, she was united in marriage to Ronald H. Sauvola. The couple resided in Chicago for a short time and then returned to Chassell to raise their family. Ronald passed away May 6, 1995. Eleanor attended the Houghton Schools and graduated from Suomi College with a degree in Social Work. She had worked for many years as a Nurses Aide for Portage View Hospital and later provided shelter in her home for abused and neglected children. Six to thirteen small children and teens would be in the house at any given time. She is preceded in death by her husband Ronald, her grandson Louis, her parents, her stepfather Walter Colombe, her brother Lawrence Duffy Colombe and her sisters Mary Nelson and Kathryn Sauvola. She will be missed by the many family, foster children and friends whose lives she has touched. A memorial service in honor of Eleanors life will be held 1 pm Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell with Rev. Soren Schmidt officiating. Burial will take place later this spring in the Chassell Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday, January 5, 2019, from 11 am until time of services at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell.
