Obituary of Elfie C. Tapio Chassell Elfie C. (Albert) Tapio, 78, a resident of the Chassell Painesdale Rd., Chassell, passed away Saturday May 5, 2007, at the Portage Health Hospital where she had been a patient for the past month. She was born on May 28, 1928, in Atlantic Mine, MI, a daughter of the late Ernest B. and Amanda (Rajala) Juntikka. As a child she attended the Painesdale School. At the age of 16 Elfie moved to Houghton where she worked for Mr. & Mrs. Edward Haus as a personal housekeeper. On May 6, 1950, she was united in marriage to Albert Tapio. The couple moved to Chassell where they have resided since. Mrs. Tapio was a member of the Chassell Apostolic Lutheran Church. Elfie loved all children and spending time with her family. Elfie was known for her great cooking, baking and gardening with Albert. Preceding her in death where her parents, brothers Thor Juntikka, Philip Juntikka, a sister Irene Belttari, and in infancy a sister Phobe and a brother James. Surviving are: Her husband Albert of Chassell 7 Children: Christine (Bruce) Sarkela of Battle Ground, WA John Tapio of Brush Prairie, WA Carol (Tim) Karlsen of Brush Prairie, WA Caren (David) Somero of the Houghton Canal James Tapio of Vancouver, WA Jay (Marcella) Tapio of Brush Prairie, WA Peter (Sara) Tapio of Brush Prairie, WA 24 Grandchildren 12 Great Grandchildren 3 Brothers: Benjamin (Lorraine) Juntikka of Hancock William (Jean) Juntikka of Chassell Carl (Sue) Juntikka of Chassell 1 Sister: Anne (Richard) Bacon of Alanson, MI Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Elfie will be held 11 a.m. Friday May 11, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock with Donald Holombo and Herbert Jarvi to officiate. Burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday May 10, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock and on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
