Obituary of Elfie Tikkanen Heinola DistrictElfie V. Tikkanen, 94, a former resident of the Heinola District passed away Wednesday evening January 14, 2009, at the Maple Manor Nursing Center in Ontonagon where she had been a resident patient.She was born on July 27, 1914, in Atlantic Mine, a daughter of the late William and Kate (Kempainen) Lampinen. She attended the Adams Township Schools. Elfie had resided in Hancock, the Houghton Canal area, Atlantic Mine and the Heinola District before becoming a resident patient at the Maple Manor Nursing Center.On November 7, 1936, she was united in marriage to Carl H. Tikkanen and he preceded her in death on July 12, 1991.Also preceding her in death were her parents, an infant son Gordon, and her sisters Alice Johnson, Martha Wesala and Ethel Hoffenbecker.She is survived by: Her daughter Gloria (Roger) Ryynanen of Cedar Bay; Her grandsons: James, Thomas, Daniel, Martin & Steven Ryynanen; Her granddaughter: Kathleen Jeromchek; 21 great grandchildren; Her sister: Mabel Trasti of Ontonagon; Her sister-in-laws: Helen Lehto of AuGres, MI, Verna Ann Hendrickson of Kingston, MN; Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousinsFuneral services for Elfie will be held 11 am Saturday, January 17, 2009, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with David Taivalkoski to officiate.
