Elizabeth “Betty” Hiltunen

Elizabeth "Betty" Hiltunen, 95, a resident of Dodgeville, passed away Wednesday July 9, 2025, at Canal View – Houghton County where she had been a patient since this past January.

Betty was born on June 29, 1930, in Limerick Location a daughter of the late Oscar and Ellen (Ohman) Jarvis. She was raised in Quincy Hill and was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the class of 1947.

On July 16, 1949, Betty was united in marriage to Sulo Hiltunen. Since 1975, the couple made their home in Dodgeville. On July 13, 2012, Sulo preceded Betty in death.

Mrs. Hiltunen had worked at the Houghton County Court House before beginning a career working as a Secretary at Michigan Technological University.

Betty was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock. As a young woman she was proud to have played softball with the Quincy Hill Hilltoppers.

Preceding her in death were her husband Sulo; her daughter and son-in-law: Dorothy and Bill Hanner; her patents, her sisters; Frances and Doris and her brothers; Bob, George, and Norman.

Surviving are: her grandsons: Kevin (Leila) Hanner and Jeffrey (Heather) Hanner

Her great-grandchildren: Kennedy, Carson, Rylee, Paige, Brennan and Sydnee

Her nephew: Ronald Halmesmaki

A private graveside service for Betty will take place at a later time in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.
