Obituary of Elsa DeArmey Coburntown Elsa I. DeArmey, 89, a former resident of Coburntown, passed away Saturday afternoon December 18, 2004, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she has been a resident patient for over the past year. The former Elsa Sved was born on November 17, 1915, in Franklin Twp., a daughter of the late Oscar J. And Hilma S. (Savolainen) Sved. As a child she attended the Franklin School, the Hancock High School, and Soumi College. On July 27, 1953, she was united in marriage to Walter F. DeArmey and he preceded her in death on June 23, 1974. Elsa was a veteran having served with the United States Army. After the service Elsa resided in the Detroit area where she worked at the General Motors Hospital as a Nurse. She returned to the Copper Country during her retirement. Elsa was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock. She enjoyed gardening and traveling around the world. Preceding her in death were 1 Brother: Eno Sved and 2 Sisters: Emma Hurley and Esther Kumlin. Surviving are: 5 Nieces and Nephews: Ralph E. Hurley of Springfield, MO Robert "Bob" Hurley of Milwaukee, WI Patricia (Vic) Brunomonti of Bloomfield, IN Art Kumlin of Coburntown David Kumlin of Coburntown Several Grand Nieces, and Grand Nephews Funeral services for Elsa will be held on Wednesday December 22, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with the Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. Spring burial to be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until time of services. The Copper Country Veteran's Association will hold Military Rites directly following the funeral services at the funeral home.
