Obituary of Elsie Forsman HANCOCK Elsie E. (Ruohonen) Forsman, 88 of Boston Location, died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Cypress Manor in Hancock, where she was a resident patient for the past 5 years. She was born in Oskar, Michigan on May 18, 1922 to the late William "Bill" and Wilhelmina (Saatio) Ruohonen. She attended the Oskar and Redridge Schools. Elsie's mother passed away when Elsie was a teen, she then helped her father raise the siblings that were living at home. Elsie cooked and baked pastries for the "sauna" company on Saturdays. She also drove the school bus, as her father had the contract for the school district. On May 7, 1949 she married Uno H. Forsman in Detroit. She was introduced to Uno by her sister, Lillian. Lillian was dating Art, Uno's brother. Lillian and Elsie married brothers, Lillian to Art and Elsie to Uno. Elsie and her husband moved back to the copper country and bought a farm in Oskar. They farmed for several years, then sold the farm and bought a home in Paavola. Elsie worked as a cook for her brother Ken at the Finlandia and Suomi Restaurants and then went to work at Suomi College until her retirement. Elsie was a member of the South Range Apostolic Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, dancing and her winters in Florida with her daughter, Sandy and her children. Elsie is survived by 4 sons, Sean Gordon of Florida, Tom of Paavola, Keith (Mary) and Arthur John all of Boston; 3 Daughters, Bonnie (Pat) Hayes of Kingsford, Sandra "Sandy" Harper of Florida and Katherine "Kathy" Forsman of Hancock; sisters, Lorraine Driest of Warren and Virginia "Honey" Cusimano of Sterling Heights: sisters in law, Elma Smith of Duluth, Betty and Nona Ruohonen of Oskar and a god daughter, Beverly Esquible of Freda; 12 grand and 7 great grandchildren. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents and a step-mother, her husband, a special friend, Art "Rudy" Peterson, her brothers, Edwin "Eppie", John "R", George "Dodo", Norman "Sonny" and Kenneth "Kenner" Ruohonen, sisters, Lila Jurmu, Laura Stuber, Lillian Forsman and Eleanor Ruohonen. She was also preceded in death by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Services will be at the South Range Apostolic Lutheran Church on Monday, March 7th at 1 PM. with Rev. Ernest Bylkas to officiate. Visitation will be held from at 11 A.M. until time of services at 1 PM. At the request of the deceased her ashes will be buried at her parents grave at the Oskar Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the South Range Apostolic Lutheran Church in memory of Elsie Forsman. Arrangements are being handled by the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1017 W.
