Obituary of Elvie Abramson Hancock Elvie E. Abramson, 97, passed away on Saturday November 5, 2011, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past 2 and a half years.She was born in Hancock on May 4, 1914, a daughter of the late Oscar and Wilhelmina Poyhonen. On July 25, 1936 she married Helmer Abramson and they made their home in Detroit. They returned to Hancock in 1943. He preceded her in death on January 20, 1985. Elvie was a resident of The Bluffs in Houghton for three years prior to her move to the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.Mrs. Abramson was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton.She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Gotha Linder, Edna Heinonen, Viola Poyhonen, Erma Kilpela, Martha Poyhonen, Mildred Johnson, and her brother Arthur Poyhonen.Surviving are: Her daughters: Ruth Ann (Charles) Kauppi of DetroitLois (Thomas) Heltunen of Houghton Her grandchildren:David Kauppi, Michael Kauppi, Karen (Donovan) Cavell, Susan Kauppi, Jennifer (Tim) VanPamel, Mark (Renee) Heltunen, and Rebecca (Peter) TorolaHer great grandchildren: Kyle, Parker, Gavin, Stefan, Taylor, Ethan, Natalie, Gabriel, Shannon, Grace, Dianna, Elaina, and Evan.Her sisters: Ina Nordstrom, Lillian Kilpela and Ruth Jurmu all of Hancock Her brother: Ray (Dorothy) Poyhonen of Hancock Her brother-in-law: Edsel Johnson of Hancock As well as many special nieces and nephews Funeral service for Elvie will be held 11 am Thursday November 10, 2011, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Richard Eskola to officiate.
