Obituary of Emory Philip Medlyn HUDSON, WI - Emory P. Medlyn, 49, of Hudson, WI and former Houghton resident, passed away at his home on Thursday morning, January 18, 2007, following a six-month battle with cancer. Em was born on December 21, 1957, in Hancock, a son of the late Emory and Anna (Kennedy) Medlyn. He graduated from Houghton High School in 1976 and joined the Navy with some of his high school friends. Following the Navy Em attended Northern Michigan Universtiy and Soumi College. Em was employed at the Department of Corrections, Stillwater, MN as a Corrections Officer and also at Warehouse Shell Sales in Newport, MN. He also maintained four rental houses in the Copper Country. On July 10, 1986, he was united in marriage with Starr Mattila. Thereafter, they lived in Simi Valley, CA, Houghton, Oakdale, MN, and for the past ten years they made their home in Hudson. Together they enjoyed tropical beach vacations, rock concerts, annual pool parties, river tubing with their large circle of friends, snowmobiling, boating, and spending Fourth of July in the Copper Country. Em was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings. He was also a season ticket holder of the Minnesota Wild since their inaugural season. For the past six years, Em's greatest joy was being with his granddaughter, Emilee, "pumpkin pie" whom he adored. Em is survived by Starr, his loving wife of 21 years, his son, Corey Bruneau, granddaughter, Emilee Bruneau and her mother, Heidi, his twin brother, Ed (Jeanne) Medlyn of Boston Location, and sister, Mary Prichard of Green River, WY, nieces Nicole Prichard and Kelly (Brad) Steele, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the Memorial Chapel in Hancock on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m., a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. with military rites held by the Copper Country Veterans Association to follow the prayer service.
