Eric Trapp

March 21, 1977 — March 11, 2022

Hancock

Eric Trapp, 44, a resident of Hancock passed away Friday evening, March 11, 2022, at his home.

He was born on March 21, 1977, in Hillsdale, MI, the son of Ronald Trapp and the late Dianne (Koljonen) Trapp. At a young age, he moved with his family to make their home in Mohawk and briefly in Eagle Harbor as the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse Keepers. Eric was a graduate of Calumet High School with the class of 1995. He then worked briefly for Isle Royale National Park until traveling to Seattle where he attended college. From there he lived an adventurous life, traveling home and abroad, visiting 49 out of our 50 states (Hawaii was on his bucket list). Some of his most cherished accomplishments were gaining sponsorship to ski in Europe, working as a private chef in Montana and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and becoming a stepfather to his stepsons.

Eric returned home to the Copper Country in 2016 to marry his "childhood crush," Amanda Futrell in 2016. Locally, Eric had worked for Sysco Foods and presently with NIFB.

On August 11, 2018, Eric was united in marriage to the former Amanda Futrell. The couple has made their home in Hancock since that time.

Eric was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock. He enjoyed everything outdoors... holding a deep love of the Keweenaw. His time was spent hiking, down hill/cross country skiing, camping, boating, working in the garden and showing love for his family and friends with his phenomenal cooking.

Preceding him in death were his mother Dianne Elizabeth Koljonen, his maternal grandparents Roy (Buppa) and Ruth Koljainen, his paternal grandparents Harry and Flora Trapp, his uncle Bud Koljonen, and his devoted canine companion of 18 years, Lizzie.

Surviving are:

His wife: Amanda Futrell-Trapp of Hancock

His step-sons: Benjamin Galetto of Hancock

Brady Galetto of Hancock

His father: Ronald (Karen) Trapp of Mohawk

His sister: Julie (Peter) Trapp-Spaziano of Florida

His uncle: Barry (Liisa) Koljonen of Lac La Belle

And several nieces, nephews and cousins.
