Obituary of Erma McMurphy Hancock Erma E. McMurphy, 61, a resident of Hancock passed away at home Wednesday morning October 7, 2009. She was born on November 21, 1947, in Highland Park, MI, a daughter of the late John and Jennie (Heinonen) Pietila. Erma had taught in the Baraga School district and then for the Chassell Public School where she retired in 2006. Erma was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. Preceding her in death were her parents, her step-mother (Julia Mikkola), and her brothers: Chester, Wesley, Peter, Arthur and Carl. Surviving are: Her children: Michael (Carolyn) McMurphy of Brighton, MI Patrick (Cristina) McMurphy of Fowllerville, MI Kelly (Jason) Erva of Houghton Her grandchildren: Nathan, Elise, Alyda, Trevor, Rianna, Lillian, and Colton Her brothers: Vic (Sue) Pietila, Jerry (Joan) Pietila, Ernie (Ann) Pietila, Tom (Dianne) Pietila Her sisters: Elaine (Matt) Kiilunen, Eva (James) Storm, and Eleanor (Ed) Harmala Her sister-in-laws: Helen Pietila, Ruth Pietila, and Pauline Pietila Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends Funeral services for Erma will be held 11 am Friday October 9, 2009, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Richard Eskola to officiate. Burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery. Friends may call tonight Thursday October 8, 2009 from 4 to 8 pm at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton and on Friday from 10 am until time of services at the church.
