Obituary of Esther Heikkinen Chassell Esther I. Heikkinen, 77, a former resident of the Snake River Hill District, and Kreamery Kourt Apartments of Chassell, passed away early New Years Day, Jan. 1, 2004, at the Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock. The former Esther Karppi was born on December 25, 1926, in the Snake River Hill District, a daughter of the late John and Signe (Daavettila) Karppi and was a graduate of the Chassell High School and attended the former Suomi College (now Finlandia University) in Hancock. Esther had owned & operated the Snake River General Store for many years. On February 20, 1958, she was united in marriage to Urho Heikkinen, and he preceded her in death on March 7, 1988. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell, and worked on various committees and groups in the church. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #6507, of Chassell. Also preceding her in death was a son, Daryl, on March 21, 1991; and her parents. Surviving are; 1 Grand daughter; Kimberely Heikkinen of Ordville, California 1 Daughter-in-law; Lucena Whitehead of Ordville, California 1 Sister; Mrs. Marie (Arthur D.) Kruger of Hastings, Minnesota 2 Nieces; Terry Kruger of Hastings, Minnesota & Jan (Paul) Woxland of Hastings, Minnesota Funeral services will be held Monday, January 5, 2004, at 11 A.M. in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with the Rev. Ted Koehl to officiate. Spring burial to be in the Chassell Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 A.M. on Monday until the time of services at the church.
