Obituary of Ethel M. Bishop Portage Township Ethel Bishop, 95, a resident of Portage Township, passed away Tuesday morning March 22, 2016, at the Omega House in Houghton following a short illness. She was born on July 3, 1920, in Chassell, a daughter of the late Albert and Bertha (Fish) Bishop. She attended the St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic School was a graduate of the Houghton High School and attended Soumi College. Ethel then worked for various businesses in the area and retired from Michigan Technological University in 1984. Ms. Bishop was an active member of St. Annes Catholic Church of Chassell. Preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers; Lesley, John and her sister Rita Peterson. Surviving are: Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews and a cousin. Ethel was especially close to her great-niece, Aubrey, who lived next door and was like a granddaughter to her. A Mass of Christian Burial for Ethel will be held 11 am Saturday April 9, 2016, at St. Annes Catholic Church of Chassell with Fr. Ben Hasse to celebrate. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton. Friends may call on Friday April 8, 2016, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Plowe Funeral Home of Houghton where a parish prayer service will be held at 6:30. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests donations be made to the Omega House.
