Obituary of Ethel Lappala Portage Entry Ethel M. (Emil) Lappala, 81, a resident of Portage Entry, passed away Tuesday December 23, 2008, at home following a lengthy illness.She was born on April 12, 1927, in Askel, MI, a daughter of the late John and Fannie (Eckola) Onkalo. As a child she attended the Houghton Schools.In September of 1947 she was united in marriage to Emil Lappala. Together the couple has resided in Pelkie, Tapiola, and since 1978 they have made their home in Portage Entry.Mrs. Lappala was employed at the Crown Bakery, Huhtelin's Store in Hurontown, and at various restaurants in the area such as the Kaleva and the Scott Hotel as a cook. She also worked with her husband at the Pelkie Co-op for many years, and helped to run the family dairy family. Ethel loved kids and to help take care of people, she enjoyed the outdoors, bowling, Pokka Dancing, playing Bingo, and watching Soumi Kutsuu.
