Obituary of Eugene Lee Jukkara Hancock/Bootjack Eugene L. Jukkara, 72, a resident of Hancock and Bootjack passed away Wednesday December 10, 2008, at the Marquette General Hospital in Marquette, where he had been a patient for the past 5 days. He was born on February 22, 1936, in Osceola, MI a son of Anne (Moilanen) Jukkara and the late Wilfred Jukkara. As a child, he attended the Calumet Schools. As a young adult, Gene moved to the Detroit area to make his home. While residing in Lower Michigan he worked for University Hospital first as an Assistant Therapist and then helping to design and manufacture devices for handicapped people. In 1966 Eugene was united in marriage to the former Nancy Monto and she preceded him in death in 1995. Mr. Jukkara retired in 1995 and returned to the Copper Country to make his home in Hancock and Bootjack. Surviving are: His mother Anne Jukkara of Hancock Several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service for Gene will be held later this spring and burial will take place in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.
