Obituary of Eunice Behreandt Hancock Eunice I. Behreandt, 83, a resident of Hancock passed away Thursday August 27, 2009, at Portage Hospital in Hancock shortly after being admitted. She was born on December 23, 1925, in Paavola, a daughter of the late William and Ida (Maki) Niemi. As a child, she moved with her family to Hancock where she graduated from the Hancock High School. On June 11, 1966, she was united in marriage to Gordon Behreandt and he preceded her in death on April 27, 2004. The couple first resided in Lake Linden then moved to Hancock where Eunice has resided for over the past 30 years. Mrs. Behreandt was a retired Secretary from Michigan Technological University in Houghton where she had worked for over 30 years. Eunice was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock. She was also a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personal and was active with the Hancock Public School Alumni Association. Eunice enjoyed traveling with her husband. Preceding her in death were her husband, her grandson Andrew, her parents, and 3 sisters; Dorothy Bloss, Margaret Erickson, and Elizabeth Niemi. Surviving are: Her daughters: Susan Collier of Phoenix, AZ Linda (Walt) Edwards of Scottsdale, AZ Dawn (Edward "Pete") Kalis of Sandusky, OH 8 grandchildren: Ryan Kalis, Ben Kalis, Nicole Kalis, Krystal Collier, Shawn Collier, Jason Edwards, Jamie Edwards, & Lisa Edwards 5 great grandchildren: Her sister: Esther Strong of Ripley Her brother: Hugo Niemi of Milwaukee, WI Several nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Eunice will be held 1 pm Tuesday September 1, 2009, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. Peter Gundersen to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Monday August 31, 2009, from 6 to 8 pm and Tuesday at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock and on Tuesday from 12 noon until time of services at the church.
