Obituary of Eunice M. Matson Woodside Lane Eunice M. Matson, 80, a resident of Woodside Lane near Dollar Bay, passed away suddenly Friday morning, October 24, 2008 from unknown causes. She had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease which she had suffered from for the past 10 years. She was born July 30, 1928 to Fahle and Lydia Nordstrom in Detroit, Michigan. She attended school in Tapiola and Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Hancock High School in 1948. In June 1952, she was united in marriage to Edsel Matson in Detroit and in 1953 the couple moved to Hancock, Michigan. During the fall of 1955, the couple moved to their current address at Woodside Lane near Dollar Bay. The couple had raised six children; Linda who died in 1971, Karl of Hancock, Paul a disabled vet living at home, Michael who died in 1989, Thomas(Landy) of Denver, Colorado, and Richard of Brighton, Michigan, and two granddaughters; Katelin and Cassandra. Eunice has 2 sisters surviving; Elizabeth(Don) Kilpela of Copper Harbor, Michigan & Helen Wisuri of Livonia, Michigan. Also one brother- in- law Paul Niemi of Lake Worth, Florida. Funeral services are scheduled for 11am, October 30, 2008 at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Richard Eskola to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock. Friends may call on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 from 4 to 8pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock and at the church on Thursday for 1 hour prior to the service.
