Atlantic Mine

Eva Susan Koskela, 78, a resident of Atlantic Mine passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Canal View — Houghton County in Hancock where she was a resident patient.

She was born on August 27, 1945, in Brooklyn Location, a daughter of the late William and Helen (Haivala) Onkalo. Susan was raised in Brooklyn Location and was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1963.

Susan was united in marriage to Robert Kamppinen and after raising their children the couple parted as friends. In the Christmas of 1998, Susan was united in marriage to Jack Koskela and the couple resided in Chassell before making their home in Atlantic Mine. In 2020, Jack preceded Susan in death.

Susan had worked for her good friend, Chris Davis at Range Finer Foods in South Range before beginning a career in 1997, working for Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock where she retired from as the Dietary Manager and Director of Supplies.

Mrs. Koskela was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church of South Range helping on various committees and singing with the church choir. Susan enjoyed all music, especially country. She also was an active member of Ranger Post #6165 VFW of South Range.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers Barney, Jacob "Jack", Dolores, Kenneth, Betty, Helen "Marie", and Philip.

Surviving are: Her children: Dale (Michele) Kamppinen of Houghton Amanda (Rick) Johnson of Atlantic Mine Her grandchildren: Kyllie (Justin) Wickman, Phillip (Stephanie) Kamppinen, Lisa Kamppinen, Austin (Alysha) Johnson, Maddison Johnson and Savannah Johnson Her great-grandchildren: Ellah, Wyatt, Riley, Alexander, Cecilia and Cienna Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends

A Memorial Service for Susan will be held 11:00 am Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Grace Lutheran Church of South Range with Rev. Bucky Beach to officiate.
