Obituary of Evert Hakala Otter Lake District Evert R. Hakala, 75, a resident of the Otter Lake District passed away early Wednesday morning, April 6, 2005, at te D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, where he had been a resident patient for the past 3 weeks. He was born in Askel on August 11, 1929, a son of the late John and Olga (Tauriainen) Hakala, and lived in the Otter Lake District for most of his lifetime, except for service time and while he worked downstate and in Illinois. He was a veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hakala was employed by the General Motors Corporation and International Harvester in the State of Illinois. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Edward, Bert, and Jack: 2 Sisters; Hulda Hakala Hill and Vera Hakala Lahikainen as well as his parents. Surviving are: 4 Sisters: Ida Pultz of Palm City, Florida Sophie Nedoli of Lake Villa, Illinois Elma Turpeinen of Hancock Helen Maki of Clarkston numerous aunts, uncles, nieces. nephews, & cousins Private funeral & graveside services will be held at the Askel Cemetery later in June of this year. The Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Chassell is serving the family.
