Flora Immonen

Obituary of Flora M. Immonen Ontonagon Flora M. Immonen, 99, a former longtime Hancock resident, died Saturday September 10, 2005, at the Maple Manor Nursing Center in Ontonagon, where she had been a resident since March of 2003. She was born June 14, 1906, in Old Colony Location, Calumet, a daughter of Isaac & Maria (Kuivinen) Erkkila. In 1914, her family moved to Traprock Valley, where she attended the local school. She was a graduate of the Lake Linden-Hubbell High School Class of 1925. She lived in Detroit for a short time where she was employed by the D.M. Perry Seed Co. When she returned to the Copper Country she worked as a bookkeeper for Superior Sales Co. and Superior Chevrolet Sales in Houghton. On June 14, 1935, she was united in marriage to Wayne A. Immonen, and they made their home in Hancock for nearly 60 years. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1995. From November 1994, until she moved to Maple Manor Flora lived at Cane Court in Ontonagon. She was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by 1 brother, Edward Erkkila, 1 sister, Laura Erkkila, and an infant great grand daughter. Surviving are: 1 Daughter and Son-in-law, Adele & David Liimatta of Farmington & Bootjack; 1 Son & daughter-in-law, Tom & Joan Immonen of Ontonagon; 8 Grandchildren; Brenda (Davin) Helminen, Lora Liimatta, Marya Liimatta, Gary (Deana) Liimatta, Todd (Char) Immonen, Jennifer (Paul) Gauthier, Craig (Beth) Immonen, & Carrie (Richard) Ling 14 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren Several Grandnieces, Grandnephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday September 14, 2005, at 1 P.M. at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton, with Richard Eskola to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 12 noon until time of services. The Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock is serving the family.
