Obituary of Florence Elaine Suo Houghton Florence Suo, 82, a resident of Houghton passed away Thursday evening October 15, 2015, at the UP Health Systems – Marquette, where she had been a patient since Sunday. She was born on July 15, 1933, on the Houghton Canal a daughter of the late Oscar and Hannah (Riippi) Romppainen. Florence was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1950. Florence was united in marriage to Ernest Suo in Detroit, MI on May 15, 1954. Florence had worked various jobs throughout the years. In her youth she worked at JC Penneys and Michigan Bell Telephone locally and then in Detroit. They eventually returned to the Copper Country and owned and operated the South Range Hardware store for 30 plus years. They enjoyed being a part of the Range community. Florence was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church of South Range, helping with quilting and various committees of the church. She was a past president of W.E.L.C.A. and a member of Ranger Post #6165V.F.W. Auxiliary of South Range. She enjoyed traveling, playing pinochle, and crafts which she was very good at and detailed oriented. She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews. She especially loved our family gatherings at Little America. Preceding her in death were her husband Ernest Suo, her parents and nieces, Cathy and Pam. Surviving are: Her sister: Marie Touhimaa of Houghton Her brother: James (Mavis) Romppainen of Garden City, MI Nieces and nephews: Clyde, Jane, Julie, Dan, Dianne, Susan, Robin, John, Michael and Tom Numerous grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins. Funeral services for Florence will be held at 11 am Saturday October 24, 2015, at Grace Lutheran Church of South Range, with Rev. Sally Wilke to officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery of South Range. Friends may call on Friday October 23, 2015, from 5 to 7 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock and on Saturday from 10 am until time of services at the church.
