Obituary of Forrest Lee Olson Hancock Forrest Lee Olson, 33, a resident of Portage Dr., Hancock, MI passed away Thursday morning August 16, 2007, at his home following a lengthy battle with cancer. Forrest was born on February 24, 1974 in Duluth, MN to Carol (Pierzina) and Rod Olson. He spent his childhood in Two Harbors, MN; Minneapolis, MN; Westcliffe, CO; and Eau Claire, WI. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School in Rice Lake, WI and graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1992. Forrest attended the University of WI-Oshkosh where he played college basketball from 1992-96. Later, Forrest continued his studies at Finlandia University (Soumi College) and completed his degree at Michigan Technological University, in Houghton, MI with a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies with a teaching certificate. Forrest married Darla Innes on August 21, 1999 at Our Lady of the Pines Church in Copper Harbor, MI. He was an assistant coach for the men's basketball team at MTU. He taught social studies at Hancock High School where he also served as an Athletic Director, and coached girl's basketball during his tenure. Forrest loved camping with his family, playing with his children, cooking, spending time with friends, playing basketball and softball, and watching sports and ESPN. He had a true passion for teaching and coaching. He attended St. Albert the Great (Houghton) and the Church of the Resurrection (Hancock) Catholic churches and had a deep faith in God's love. Forrest is survived by his wife, Darla and two daughters, Brooke and Brynn; his parents, Carol and Rod Olson, and brother, Brent; and his paternal grandmother, Maude Olson and a maternal grandmother, Mary Ann Pierzina. In addition, he is survived by mother and father-in-law, Jan and Bob Innes; sister and brother-in-law, Tammy and Colin Botten; sister-in-law Susie Pedrin; nephews Derrick Pedrin, Tyler Botten, and Chase Botten; and niece Cayden Botten. Forrest is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceeded in death by grandfathers Richard Pierzina and Carl Olson, and uncle Leon Olson. A visitation will be held for Forrest at Memorial Chapel in Hancock on Sunday from 3:00-7:00 pm with a parish prayer service at 7 pm, followed by a time for sharing memories. The Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Father Larry Van Damme and Father Sebastian Ettolil M.C.B.S. at 11 am on Monday at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock.
