Hancock
Frederick “Fred” (Ruth) Ruelle, 81, a resident of Hancock, passed away Sunday morning, January 18, 2026, at the UP Health System –
Portage Hospital in Hancock.
He was born on March 18, 1944, in Hancock, a son of the late Bernard and Ruth (Milford) Ruelle. Fred was raised in Hancock and was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the class of 1963. Mr. Ruelle was a veteran, having served with the United States Army. Following the service, Fred worked in the press room at the Daily Mining Gazette before working as a bus driver for the Dollar Bay Schools and the Intermediate School Systems.
On October 5, 1978, he was united in marriage to the former Ruth Richards. Fred enjoyed following Hockey in the winter and spending time on
the golf course in the summers.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother Jim, and his in-laws: Merton and Ellen Richards.
Surviving are: His wife: Ruth Ruelle of Hancock; His sister: Mary Ruelle of Hancock; His sister-in-law: Sue Ruelle of Livonia; His brother-in-law: Dick (Sharon) Richards of Hancock; His nephew: Gregg (Kathie) Richards of Houghton and their children, Kelsie (Jace) and Hunter (Hannah); His nieces: Tami Ruelle and her children Hannah & Adian; Dawn Rupe and her children Travis, Caleb, & Cody; Jana (Jason) Alumbaugh and their daughter Janelle; Numerous cousins
As requested, no service will take place and burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery later this year. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests the memorial donations be given to the Omega House in Houghton or Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly.
