Obituary of George Chamberlain Hancock George H. Chamberlain, 80, a resident of Hancock, passed away Wednesday February 9, 2011, at the Marquette General Hospital where he had been a patient for the past week. He was born on April 14, 1930, in Hancock to George Sr. and Ina (Mattila) Chamberlain. He attended the Hancock schools and graduated with the class of 1948. He then attended Michigan Tech for one year before moving to Detroit to finish his schooling in Pharmacy. He was a veteran having served with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict as a Medical Corpsman-pharmacist. Following the service he worked at Land's Pharmacy in Royal Oak, MI, for 21 years. After their closing he worked at various drug stores in the Detroit area until he moved to Hancock in 1983. He then worked at the Synder Drug and Portage Health. He retired in 2005 after 51 years in Pharmacy. He was married to Wanda Jones of Detroit in 1980 and she passed away in 1982. On April 14, 1984 he was united in marriage to Ruth (Peterson) Kivela of Negaunee. George was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock. Preceding him in death were his first wife, his parents, his sister June, his brothers Charles and Theodore, and a step-son Edward. Surviving are: His wife: Ruth Chamberlain of Hancock His sister: Joan (Peter) Iaraudi of Helen Lake, Ishpeming His nephews: Thomas (Pamela) Byykonen of Tunerville, NJ George (Diane) Byykonen of Dickyville, WI His step-son: Glen Kivela of Negaunee His step-daughter: Anne (Michael) Rzanca of Munising His step children from his former wife: Russell and Cynthia and their families. Several Step grandchildren, Step great grandchildren & cousins Funeral services for George will be held 1 pm Saturday February 12, 2011, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Northland Chapel Garden Cemetery of Negaunee. Friends may call on Saturday February 12, 2011, from 12 noon until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorial be given to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock in memorial of George H. Chamberlain.
