Obituary of George Gill Hancock George Gill Sr., 95, a resident of Hancock, passed away Wednesday October 13, 2010, at his home with his family by his side. He was born on November 12, 1914, in Hancock, a son of the late Alfred and Louisa (Davey) Gill. George attended the Pewabic Schools. On January 20, 1940 he was united in marriage to the former Dora Semmens and she preceded him in death on January 17, 2007. George had been employed with the Quincy Mining Company, worked in the CC Camps, Superior Block Company, Portage Coal Company, Gibb City Lumber Company, Fordmatic, and Michigan Technological University before his retirement. Mr. Gill was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hancock and was an avid Green Bay Packer and Detroit Red Wing fan. Preceding him in death were his wife, his parents, his sister Gwen Jarvis and his brothers Alfred and Harold. Surviving are: His son: George (Judith) Gill of Hancock His daughter: Sharon (Stephen) Kinkade of Beloit, WI His grandchildren: Pamela (Bill Kovacs) Gill of Kentwood, MI Georgina Gill of Ishpeming Heather Kinkade of Beloit, WI Erin (Matt) Brandes of Milwaukee Several nieces and nephews Funeral service for George will be held 2 pm Saturday October 16, 2010, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. Amy Terhune to officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton. Friends may call on Friday October 15, 2010, from 5 to 7 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock and on Saturday from 1 pm until time of services. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to the Senior Meals Program at Portage Health Systems.
