Obituary of Gertrude Laine Hancock Gertrude L. Laine, 91, a resident of Hancock passed away Saturday May 15, 2010, at the Portage Hospital in Hancock following a short illness. She was born on April 5, 1919, in Oscar, a daughter of the late John and Fannie (Solomonson) Laine. Gert was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the class of 1937. Ms. Laine moved to Detroit after high school and began working as a civil servant for the Federal Government with the Army Audit division retiring with over 30 years of service. She then worked at Forrest Laidlaw Florist in Detroit until moving back to Hancock in 1995. Gertrude was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church where she was active with the quilters of the church. She also attended the local meeting for the retiring government employees. Gert enjoyed knitting and sewing in her retirement. Preceding her in death were her parents, her sisters, Helen Laine and Viola LeLievre, her brothers John Wesley Laine and Reino Laine Surviving are: Her brother; Armas (Norma) Laine a resident patient of the Houghton Count Medical Care Facility. Her sisters; Ruth (George) Manninen of Chassell Marjorie Zollinger of Pittsburg, PA Catherine (Paul) Leach of Largo, FL Betty (Dr. Hal) Williams of Ithaca, MI Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Private graveside services for Gertrude will be held at a later time at the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock.
