Obituary of Gladys Etapa Hurontown Gladys L. Etapa, 77, a resident of Manitou Street. Hurontown, passed away Monday, April 26, 2004, at the Marquette General Hospital, in Marquette, following a short illness. The former Gladys L. Neva was born in Hancock, on December 12, 1926, a daughter of the late Edward & Mary (Michaelson) Neva, the youngest of 11 children, and attended the Hancock schools. On July 3, 1948, she was united in marriage to Carl E. Etapa and resided in the Chassell area for 7 years, before moving to Hurontown. She was employed at the former St. Joseph's Hospital (later known as Portage View) as a switchboard operator, retiring after 27 years of service, and had also worked at the former J.J. Newberry's Store in downtown Houghton. Gladys enjoyed sewing, reading, crocheting, cross stiching, and camping. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Houghton, the Chassell V.F.W. Auxilliary, and the T.O.P.S. Club of Hancock. Preceding her in death was a son, Thomas; her parents; 1 Sister, and 9 Brothers Surviving are: her husband, Carl. 1 Son: Charles (Margaret) Etapa of Ontonagon 3 Daughters: Patricia (Thomas) Christopherson of Brighton Carol (James) McCloskey of Hurontown Nancy ( Michael) Corrigan of Bootjack 13 Grandchildren 5 Great Grandchildren As requested by Gladys there will be no visitation, and a memorial service will be held Friday, April 30, 2004, at 11 A.M. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1100 College Ave., Houghton, MI with Rev.
