Obituary of Gladys Leinonen Hancock Gladys E. Leinonen, 92, a resident of Hancock passed away Sunday afternoon May 13, 2012, at the Franklin House of Portage Pointe in Hancock. She was born on November 29, 1919, in Painesdale, MI, a daughter of the late William and Jennie (Olson) Witte. She graduated from Jeffers High School with the class of 1938. On December 14, 1940, she was united in marriage to George Leinonen of the Hancock Canal. The couple celebrated 71 years together this past December. George preceded Gladys in death this past March. She was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock. Preceding her in death were her husband George, her parents and her brothers Albert and Robert Witte. Surviving are: Her children: George (Charlotte) Leinonen of Clarkston, MI Jean (Don) Hiltunen of Hancock 2 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, and 5 great granddaughters Her nephew: Robert Witte Jr. of Duluth, MN As requested a private service for Gladys will take place at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery of Calumet. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorials be given to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in memory of Gladys Leinonen.
