Grace Ziegler (Eberle)

March 18, 1925 — August 18, 2014

Obituary of Grace Charlotte Ziegler Salo Location Grace Charlotte (Eberle) Ziegler died on August 18, 2014 after a lengthy battle with lymphoma, and recently dementia and aging changes. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 18, 1925, the daughter of Charles and Clara Eberle. On April 10, 1951, she married Dr. Robert Ziegler (deceased March 2, 2003) and they started their family in Troy, Michigan. In 1970, on a "great adventure", Dad moved the family to Hancock, Michigan, and they took up residence in the Salo location. While she initially wanted to return to the Detroit area, she came to love the Keweenaw, and ultimately never wanted to leave. This became the community she forever called home. Bob and Grace loved their community and gave back to it in numerous ways over the years. They loved their family, their friends, and the land they lived on. For the past three and one half years, Grace was a resident of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility, where she received excellent care. Her one wish was that she wanted to "go home and be with my dog". Her beloved Black Labrador, Sage, preceded her in death this past June after over fifteen years of a wonderful life. Now Grace resides in comfort with her husband Robert, Sage, and all other family and friends who passed before her. Grace is survived by a sister, Dorothea Heidmann, sister-in-law Hilda Lambert, children Sally ( Fred Floan), David (Deirdre), James (Julie), Michael (Lori) Ziegler, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A special thank-you is given to the Houghton County Medical Care Facility for their compassionate care of all of the elderly who reside there. Memorial contributions can be made to the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock, or directed to Sally Ziegler, 1413 Lori Ave., Detroit Lakes, MN 56501. Over the years, Grace faced many hurdles and obstacles. She always proclaimed that she was very blessed and always emphasized that "things could be worse". She is free of her infirmities now. We remember the words of Isiah 40:31: "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, They shall mount up with wings, like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint." Grace was a beautiful life, and will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
