Gregory "Greg" Peterson

Gregory Peterson, 50, a resident of Chassell passed away Monday, February 28, 2022, at the Omega House in Houghton Following a short battle with cancer.
He was born on March 20, 1971, in Medina, OH, a son of Dale and Karan (Higgins) Peterson. The family resided in Medina, OH, and Glen Ellyn, IL, until moving to make their home in Spring Lake, MI. Greg attended Westfield Elementary and Spring Lake High School where he was active playing football, running track, and was a member of the National Honors Society, graduating with the class 1989. Greg then attended Western Michigan University and Grand Valley State University before moving to Florida to work with the Marriott Group, Baja Beach Club and Zuma Beach Club. He also worked at Cedar Point Amusement Park. Greg graduated from Muskegon Community College with Honors while working as a Quality Control Manager at a screw manufacturing company. Greg then decided to attend Michigan Technological University with a focus on Bio-medical Engineering. After moving to the area he decided that he would rather reside in the Copper Country and at the family farm in Chassell and not move to work in the corporate world.
While attending Michigan Tech Greg began a career in the food industry baking at Roy’s Bakery and more recently Gino’s Restaurant in Hancock as the Kitchen Manager where he found his second family.
Greg enjoyed spending time at the family farm working on various projects and being the handyman. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR and Drag Racing with his father and golfing and fishing with his brother and uncle.
Preceding him in death were his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Surviving are: His Father Dale Peterson of Chassell, MI and Boynton Beach, FL, His mother: Karan M. Peterson of Norton Shores, MI; His sisters & brothers: Deborah (Paul) Saaranen of South Range, James (Mary) Knuuttila of El Rio, TX. Donna Lee Peterson of Muskegon, MI, & Jeffrey Peterson of Chassell; His nephews: Josh Saaranen & Joel (Jamie) Saaranen and their families; His special cousin: David (Kelly) Peterson and family along with numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A memorial service for Greg will be held 11:00 am Monday, March 7, 2022, at the Range Apostolic Lutheran Church of South Range with Pastor Ernest Bylkas III to officiate.
Greg’s family would like to thank the staff of the Omega House for the care given to him during his stay. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorials be given to the American Cancer Society in memory of Gregory Peterson.
