Obituary of Gwendolyn Wiitanen Gwendolyn E. Wiitanen, 82, a resident of Dollar Bay, passed away Wednesday evening, September 10, 2003, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where she had been a resident patient since 2000. The former Gwendolyn Frost was born in Dollar Bay, on August 4, 1921, a daughter of the late Oscar and Sophia (Bjorndahl) Frost, and had resided for most of her lifetime in Dollar Bay, except for 5 years in Hancock. On October 4, 1944, she was united in marriage to the late Andrew Wiitanen, in Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Boston, Mass., and he preceded her in death on May 15, 1993. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Dollar Bay, and former President of the Ladies Aid Society of the Church. Also preceding her in death were: 1 son; her parents, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters. Surviving are: 2 Sons: Wallace "Buddy" (Pat) Wiitanen of Franklin Mine - Robert (Teresa) Wiitanen of Tamarack City 3 Grand Daughters: Cheryl, Ariel, & Emily Wiitanen 3 Grand Sons: Terry, Gene, & Brian Wiitanen 2 Sisters: Mrs. Mildred Baugh of Redford, MI - Mrs. Grace Peterson of Birmingham Numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2003, at 11 A.M. in the First Lutheran Church of Dollar Bay, with Rev. Katie Gallagher to officiate. Friends may call on Monday from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock, and for 1 hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
