Obituary of Harry William Niemi Tapiola Harry W. Niemi, a former resident of Clawson, MI, and Tapiola, passed away Friday morning May 3, 2013, at the Bluffs Senior Living Community in Houghton, where he had been a resident for the past seven months. He was born on November 29, 1932, in Tapiola, the son of the late William and Olga (Karna) Niemi. He was a graduate of the John A Doelle School with the class of 1950. After graduation, Harry worked in the Ishpeming mines, and then served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1961. Harry was united in marriage to the former Lois A. Dunn in 1956. They had resided in the Detroit area and Clawson, spending vacations in Tapiola. In 1987 Lois preceded Harry in death. Harry had retired from Lattner Brothers where he was a machinist for over 40 years. Preceding him in death were his wife, Lois, his parents, and his brother-in-law, George Leinonen. Surviving are: His sisters: Beverly (Ralph) Hietala of Chassell Joan Leinonen of Chassell His nephew: Glenn (Sue Berryman) Leinonen of Chassell His nieces: Ann ( Mark) Roth of Chassell Sue (Brian) Hietala of Chassell Becky (Marc) Bloom of Harvey "Nephew" and caregiver in Clawson: George (Anne) Nordstrom Special Friend: Gloria Leppanen of Baragra Several brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services for Harry will be held 11 am Monday May 20, 2013, at Mission United Lutheran Church of Pelkie with Rev. John Autio to officiate. Burial will be in the Elo Cemetery following the luncheon. Friends may call on Monday May 20, 2013, from 10 am until time of services at the church. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorials be given to the Tapiola Volunteer Fire Department or the Doelle Senior Citizens in memory of Harry Niemi.
