Obituary of Hattie Vial Chassell Hattie C. Vial, 93, a resident of Chassell, passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday morning July 30, 2012, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past three years. She was born on November 16, 1918, in Hourontown, a daughter of the late Stephen J. and Cora (Van Dell) Stone. Hattie graduated from the Houghton High School and then received her nursing degree. Mrs. Vial had worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hancock, as a private duty nurse in the area and then retired from the Houghton County Medical Care Facility as a floor supervisor. Hattie also owned and operated her own antique business the Eagle Shop, in Chassell. Hattie was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church of Chassell where she was active with the Altar Society. She was a 50 year member of the Chassell Post #4607 V.F.W. Auxiliary and also helped with the United Way each year. Hattie was always active, in her younger years she learned to fly air planes; played ice hockey, and enjoyed downhill skiing. She also enjoyed working with crafts, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother Joseph and her sister Marie Kimmel Surviving are: Her daughter: Patricia Taylor of Grand Heaven, MI Her sons: Eric Vial of Renton, WA Robert Vial of Chassell Her grandson: Kyle Taylor Several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial for Hattie will be held 11 am Saturday August 4, 2012, at St. Anne's Catholic Church of Chassell with Fr. Al Mott to celebrate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday August 3, 2012, from 5 to 7 pm at the Plowe Funeral Home of Houghton where Chassell Post #4607 V.F.W. Auxiliary will hold honors at 6 pm, and on Saturday from 10 am until time of services at the church.
