Obituary of Helen Caspary Hancock Helen "Holly" M. Caspary, 89, a resident of Hancock passed away Sunday evening December 9, 2012, at the Franklin House of Portage Pointe where she had been a resident patient since October. She was born on June 25, 1923, in Houghton, a daughter of the late William and Mary (Haischer) Little. Helen was raised in Atlantic Mine and was a graduate of the Houghton High School. On June 5, 1943, she was united in marriage to Gerald Joseph Caspary. The couple resided in Alexandria, Virginia while Gerald was commissioned in the United States Army Corp of Engineers. The couple then resided in Hancock, MI, Badger, WI, for a short time and then back to Hancock while Gerald was employed as a faculty member with Michigan Technological University. In retirement, they resided in Aiken, S.C., to be close to their family. On August 9, 1993, Gerald preceded Holly in death. In 1996, Holly returned to make her home in the Houghton and Hancock area. Holly was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Houghton. Also she was very active with the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary Guild & the M.T.U. Faculty Wives Association. For a number of years Holly was a local Girl Scout leader and enjoyed the yearly day camp trips to Twin Lakes. She also enjoyed driving her daughter and other girls on the Hancock High School Girls Ski Team. She & Gerry where long time members of the Miscowaubic Club. Holly also was an avid gardener and bird watcher. She truly enjoyed opening the summer cottage on Half Moon Beach each year &wintering with her husband Gerry to Hilton Head, S.C. where they would walk the beach and search for sea shells. Following Gerry's death, Holly enjoyed a yearly cruse with her daughter and granddaughter. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, her sisters; Gladys Mowrer and Edith Edwardsen. Surviving are: Her daughter: Dona (Tom) Gould of Hancock Her granddaughter: Cecily (Frank) Burgess of Loganville, GA Several nieces, nephews and cousins A memorial service for Holly will be held 11 Am Saturday December 15, 2012 at Trinity Episcopal Church of Houghton with Michael Scott to officiate. Friends may call on Saturday December 15, 2012 from 10 am until time of services at the church. Interment will be in the Trinity Episcopal Church Columbarium on June 25, 2013, Holly's 90th birthday.
