Obituary of Helmi A. Kokko Hancock Helmi A. Kokko, 88, a former resident of Hancock passed away Saturday morning April 15, 2006, at the Omega House in Houghton where she had been a resident for the last week. The former Helmi Palo was born on February 16, 1918, in Princess Pointe, a daughter of the late Erick and Helmi (Nikkinen) Palo. Helmi was united in marriage to Wayne Kokko. Together they moved to Hancock where she had resided for the past 61 years, moving to the Bluffs Senior Living Community this past July. Wayne preceded her in death on December 31, 1965. Mrs. Kokko was a member of the First apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. Also preceding her in death were 3 brothers: Art, Erick, Arvi, and 3 Sisters: Sophie, Tillie, and Linda. Surviving are: 1 Daughter: Jean Wiitanen of Chassell 5 Grandchildren: Jeff Wiitanen of Brighton, MI Wayne (Jane) Wiitanen of Hartland, MI Cheryl Wiitanen of SanClemente, CA Mike Wiitanen of Brighton, MI Ken Wiitanen of Chassell 2 Great grandchildren: Audrey and Liam 3 Sisters: Aili Kauppi of Hancock Eva (Weldon) Jurva of Princess Pointe Eleanor Peterson of Hancock 1 Sister-in-law: Doris Kokko of Canton, MI Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and Dave Wiitanen Funeral services for Helmi will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday April 18, 2006, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Richard Eskola to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Monday April 17, 2006, from 5 to 8 pm. at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials may be given to the Omega House or the Charity of ones choice in Helmi's memory.
