Obituary of Herman Walitalo Boston Location Herman "Matt" Walitalo, 86, a resident of the Boston Crosscut Rd., Boston Location, passed away Monday evening April 24, 2006, at Our Lady of Mercy Convalescent Home in Hubbell, where he had been a resident patient since this past January. He was born on March 20, 1920, in Boston Location a son of the late Richard and Mary (Jarvenpaa) Walitalo. As a child Matt attended and graduated from the Hancock High School he also was a graduate from Michigan Technological University. Mr. Walitalo was a veteran having served with the United Sates Air Force during World War II where he received the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. On June 30, 1951 he was united in marriage to the former Vina Harju. Matt had worked in the C.C. Camps after he graduated from High school, at the Copper Country Cheese Factory in Dollar Bay, the Soil Conservation Service, and then for the Bureau of Land Management in the States of Oregon and Utah. In 1980 he returned to Boston Location with his wife where they have resided since. Preceding him in death where his parents, 3 Brothers: John, Einard, Carl, and 2 Sisters: Mamie and Felma. Surviving are: His wife, Vina Walitalo a resident patient at Our Lady of Mercy Convalescent Home in Hubbell 1 Brother: Edsel L. (Irene) Walitalo of Lake Wood, CO 1 Sister: Bertha Younga a resident patient at the Houghton County Medical care Facility in Hancock Several nieces and nephews Funeral services for Matt will be held 1 P.M. this Thursday April 27, 2006, in the Northwood's Christian Assembly Church of Calumet with Rev. Kenneth Toth to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Thursday April 27, 2006, from 11 A.M. until time of services at the church.
