Obituary of Howard Johnson Hancock Howard L. Johnson, 81, a resident of Hancock and formerly of Bruce Crossing, passed away Thursday evening August 20, 2009, at the Omega House in Houghton. He was born on June 10, 1928, in Hancock a son of the late Ralph and Aleda (Juntunen) Johnson. As a child, he resided in Laurium and Dover and attended the Franklin and Osceola Township schools. In 1943 the family moved to Bruce Crossing, MI where he graduated from the Ewen High School with the class of 1947. He studied at Suomi College and the Detroit Business University. Mr. Johnson was a veteran having served with the United States Army in Peking, Shanghai and Nanking, China. Following the service Mr. Johnson resided in the Detroit area where he worked in the Automotive and Tractor industry. He also owned and operated a building supply and rental business in Bruce Crossing. On March 30, 1991, he was united in marriage to the former Katherine Lantto. Mr. Johnson was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton, and while residing in Bruce Crossing was active with the local DAV. Preceding him in death were his parents, six brothers, Donald, Charles, Henry, Franklin, Lewis, Patrick, 2 sisters; Barbara Thompson & and infant sister Grace Ann. Surviving are: his wife: Katherine Johnson of Hancock His brothers: Gerald (Micky) Johnson of Lynnwood, WA Burton (Betty) Johnson of Bruce Crossing, MI William (Luella) Johnson of Houghton Michael (Joyce) Johnson of Everrtt, WA John (Hazel) Johnson of Houghton His sisters: Patricia Long of Mohave Valley, AZ Suzanne (Keith) Sackett of Keweenaw Bay His aunt: Ethel Johnson of Houghton Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Howard will be held 11 am Tuesday August 25, 2009, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton, with Richard Eskola to officiate. Burial will be in the Oskar Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday August 24, 2009, from 4 to 7 pm at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton and on Tuesday from 10 am until time of services at the Church.
