Ida Montangue (Rantamaki)

Obituary of Ida Sophie Montangue Hancock Ida S. Montangue, 91, a former resident of Hancock passed away Tuesday evening April 8, 2014, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past two years. She was born on September 14, 1922, in Salo, a daughter of the late August and Lydia (Kinnunen) Rantamaki. She attended the Salo School and Hancock High School. On December 4, 1943, she was united in marriage to Roy Walman, they resided on Quincy Hill for 25 years. They then moved to Hancock. On March 15, 1970 Roy preceded her in death. On November 9, 1974, she was united in marriage to Llewellyn (Bud) Montangue. The couple resided in Houghton. On April 30, 1980, Bud preceded her in death. Since 1981, Ida has made her home in Hancock. Ida was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock where she was active with the quilting group of the church. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husbands, her brothers Raymond, Herman, Reino & Weldon, her sisters Eva Moilanen and Katherine Bessner, her son-in-law James Ruotsala and a very special friend Rueben Kovala. Surviving are: Her daughters: Judy Ruotsala of Grosse Pointe Shores Carol (Rick) Reeves of IL Her grandchildren: Erin (Jerry) Etierre James (Angela) Ruotsala & sons James, Andrew, & Jack John Ruotsala and daughter Leah Jason (Joan) Ruotsala and children Natalie, Dylan & Wyatt Jared (Julie) Ruotsala and daughters Hailey, Taylor (Everet) and son Kruze, Jaycie, & Delaney Justin (Christy) Ruotsala and children Justin, Ashley, Shawn & Evan Her sister: Sadie Liimatainen of Salo Several nieces, nephews, and cousins Her sister-in-law: Janet Rantamaki of Houghton Funeral services for Ida will be held 2pm Saturday April 12, 2014 at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. DJ Rasner to officiate. Burial will be later this spring in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Saturday April 12, 2014, from 1 pm until time of services at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock. Ida's family would like to thank the staff of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility and all of the wonderful and caring people that have helped care for Ida. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorials be given Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock in memory of Ida Montangue.
