Obituary of Irene Hauswirth Salo DistrictIrene E. Hauswirth, 87, a resident of the Salo District, passed away Friday evening November 11, 2011, at her home.Irene was born June 13, 1924, in Quincy Township, to the late Werner and Jennie (Kallio) Maki. She attended the Quincy School and graduated from the Hancock Central High School in 1942.On October 1, 1948, she was united in marriage to Paul L. Hauswirth, and they were happily married for over 56 years and celebrated their Golden Anniversary with their children in 1998.They made their home in downstate Hazel Park for over 27 years. She was employed in the Hazel Park school system and taught at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for over 20 years. Paul retired from Chrysler Corp. in March of 1975, which enabled the family to return to the Copper Country.Upon returning, Irene was a quilter and a catechism teacher at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church for three years. Mrs. Hauswirth was employed at the Hancock Central High School as a secretary and retired in 1987. She was a life member of Michigan Association of Retired School Personal.Paul and Irene enjoyed their country home all their retirement years,feeding the deer and a variety of birds. Paul passed away January 25, 2005 and their son. Scott L. James Weidner to officiate.
