Obituary of Irene Irma Johnson Hancock/Green Irene I. Johnson, 89, a former resident of Green and presently of Hancock passed away Tuesday evening August 19, 2008, at the Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past 3 months. She was born on August 15, 1919, in Coburntown, a daughter of the late Eli and Mary Kemppainen. Irene has resided in Gratiot, Dollar Bay, Pointe Mills, Hubbell, in Green for the past 42 years and wintered in Hancock for the past 2 years. On November 7, 1938, she was united in marriage to Arne Johnson and he preceded her in death on November 6, 1995. Irene had first worked for the Copper Country Dairy and then for Lake Valley Dairy once her husband became part owner of the dairy. Irene was a member of the White Pine VFW, she loved to dance and listen to music. Preceding her in death were her husband, a grandson, her parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Surviving are: Her children: Gloria (Matt) North of Hancock Ernest Johnson of Hancock 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren Numerous very special nieces & nephews Several cousins and many friends Funeral services for Irene will be held 11 a.m. Monday August 25, 2008, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Pastor Brian Knight to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Monday August 25, 2008, from 10 a.m. until time of services.
