Obituary of Jack Schaaf Chassell Jack E. Schaaf, 54, a resident of Lower Pike Rd., Chassell was pronounced dead on arrival at Portage Health System Hospital on Saturday, June 11, 2005, following an apparent heart attack at home. He was born on March 3, 1951, in Detroit, a son of the late Donald and Lahja Jean (Lindgren) Schaaf. He later resided in Osceola Location near Calumet, and for over the past 22 years has made his home in Chassell. Jack had resided most of his life in Hancock and was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the Class of 1969. He also had attended Gogebic Community College. On May 7, 1977 he was united in marriage to the former Linda Haapala. Mr. Schaaf has worked for 32 years at the Houghton County Road Commission. Jack was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell, where he had taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Chassell Volunteer Fire Department where he served as First Assistant Chief. Jack was an original member of the Superior Search & Rescue, and was a member of the Chassell First Responders. Mr. Schaaf also was an officer of the Executive Board and was past Union Steward of the Teamsters Union Local #328. He also was formerly involved as a local Baseball Coach and Girl Scout Leader. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Mark. Joyce (Steven) Belopavlovich of Mesnard Location Karen Savoy of Charlotte, N.C. Joan (Don) Weeks of Elk Rapids, MI Linda (Dan) Gibson of Redwood Valley, CA Judy (Terry) McCormick of Durand, IL Donna (William) Currier of Gulfport, MS. Numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Special Friends. Funeral services for Jack will be held on Tuesday June 14, 2005, at 11 A.M. at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. Ted Koehl to officiate. Burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery. Friends may call at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock tonight Monday June 13, from 3 - 8 P.M., where the Chassell Volunteer Fire Department will hold a memorial service at 7 P.M., and on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until time of services at the church.
