Obituary of James Foss Houghton Canal James G. Foss, 60, a resident of the Houghton Canal passed away early Thursday morning February 7, 2013, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born on April 19, 1952, in Clare, MI, a son of Betty (House) Foss and the late Jack Foss. James was raised in Clare and was a graduate of the Clare Public High School with the class of 1970. Following high school, Jim was drafted into the United States Army where he served with the Military Police in Germany. Mr. Foss then attended Mid Michigan Community College, Michigan Technological University and attained a Bachelors of Science Degree from Central Michigan University. For the past 25 years, Jim enjoyed his work and his coworkers at Copper Country Mental Health. For health reasons he was forced into early retirement from the position of Rights Officer Quality Management Coordinator this past fall. On July 17, 1999, he was united in marriage to Mary Knight on Mackinac Island. Jim loved spending time by Lake Superior, collecting coins, collecting rocks, photography, traveling, and spending time on Mackinac Island. Preceding him in death were his father, his infant sister Joy and his brother-in-law James Knight. Surviving are: His wife Mary Knight-Foss of Houghton Canal His mother: Betty (Jim) Hebner of Beaverton, MI His step-children: Jason Jarvis of Marquette Joshua Jarvis of Bunn Level, NC Danielle Jarvis of Houghton Jennifer Jarvis of Sayre, PN His grandchildren: Anna Marie Jarvis and Brianna Jarvis His brothers: John (Jana) Foss of Mears, MI Jerry (Wendy) Foss of Farmington Hills, MI Joe (Dawn) Foss of Clare, MI His step-brothers: Mike Hebner, Jeff Hebner and Roy Hebner His in-laws: Patricia Johnson of Waukeshaw, Wi David Knight of Chisolm, MN John Knight of Houghton Julie Knight of Houghton Several nieces, nephews, and cousins A memorial service for Jim will be held later this spring at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Jim's family would like to thank all who have helped him through this difficult illness. The care given to him from the doctors and nurses locally could not have been any better. The family requests that any acknowledgments be directed toward Portage Home Health and Hospice, and Omega House.
