Obituary of James Barth Jenkins Houghton James B. Jenkins, 81, a resident of Houghton, passed away Thursday evening December 18, 2014, at the Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock where he had been a resident patient for the past 19 months. He was born on January 15, 1933, in Bismarck, ND, a son of the late James Edward and Marian (Thysell) Jenkins. James was a graduate of the Bismarck High School and also attended Bismarck Junior College. He then graduated from Valley City State Teachers College in Valley City, North Dakota. He then graduated from William Mitchell College Law School. Mr. Jenkins also was a veteran having served with the United States Navy. James began his law career in private practice first in Tyler, MN then in Milaca, MN & Willmar, MN. In 1969, he moved to Chassell, MI, when he accepted a position with UP Legal Services. Mr. Jenkins went on to serve as the Prosecutor in Houghton County, Ontonagon County and retiring in 1998 from Calhoun County in Michigan. On September 3, 1960, he was united in marriage to the former Wilma Liebl. Mr. Jenkins was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church of Chassell. He was a very talented man that could work on any project around from making shelves to working on the car in the garage. He was very proud of being able to build his own round home. Also preceding him death were his brother Thomas Allen Jenkins and his sister Beverly Grace Dilger Jensen. Surviving are: His wife: Wilma Jenkins of Houghton and Chassell His children: Gregory Barth (Jasmin) Jenkins of St. Roberts, MS Juliann (Joel) Thomason of Deer Park, IL Mary Kathleen (Dr. Michael) Penn of Platteville, WI Colin Micah (Heather) Jenkins of Gwinn, MI His grandchildren: Darren, Nicholas, Hannah, Rachel, Matthew, Thomas & Charlie His sister: Patsy (Albert) Heinitz of Iowa City, IA His brother: David Edward (Sandra) Jenkins of Wilton, ND Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial for James will be held 11 am Monday December 22, 2014, at St. Anne's Catholic Church of Chassell with Fr. Ben Hasse to celebrate. Spring burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Copper County Veterans Association. Friends may call on Sunday December 21, 2014, from 4 to 7 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Chassell where a parish prayer service will be held at 6:30 pm. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorial be given to the charity of one's choice in memory of James Barth Jenkins.
