Obituary of James Robert Knight Houghton On December 11th, 2007, after a long courageous battle with cancer, Jim Knight passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones. Jim was born December 28, 1950 to Marjorie (Williams) and Charles J. Knight. He attended St. Ignatius Loyola School, Houghton High School, and graduated from Michigan Technological University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Jim was employed by Copper Range Company from 1973 to 1980. He was assistant to the Chief accountant from 1973 to 1975, and was the land manager from 1975 to 1980. In 1980 Jim founded Copper Country Land Services which he operated until 1999, and then founded Knight Appraisal Services, which he operated until 2007. Jim was a licensed real estate broker, a licensed real estate appraiser, a member of the Keweenaw Multiple Listing Services, the Upper Peninsula Association of Realtors, the Michigan Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, and the Michigan Association of Real Estate Appraisers. Jim was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell. He enjoyed golfing, and was an avid sports fan of the Green Bay Packers, as well as the Detroit Red Wings, Tigers, and Pistons. He loved the local area, and appreciated the kind and caring people that lived here. He is survived by his wife Julie, daughter of his beloved in-laws, Elsie and the late Edward (Ed) Lauluma, four children, Brandon and Jordan of Winter Park, FL, Greta of Marquette, MI, and Eric of Mesa, AZ. He is also survived by a very special sister, friend, and companion, Mary (Jim) Knight-Foss of Houghton, MI, a sister Patricia Johnson of Waukesha, WI, and two brothers David of Chisholm, MN, and John of Chassell, MI, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a very special niece, Danielle of Houghton, MI and a very special Goddaughter, Taylor, of Eaton Rapids, MI, and his beloved canine companion of 10 years, Reggie. A celebration of Jim's life will be held 11 a.m. Monday December 17, 2007, in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. Ted Koehl to officiate. Friends may call at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell on Monday December 17, 2007, from 10 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Keweenaw Home Health & Hospice, or the Omega House Veterans Fund in memory of Jim Knight.
