Obituary of James Michael Atlantic Mine James C. Michael, 63, passed away suddenly Monday June 28, 2011, at his home. He was born on June 15, 1948, in Excelsior, West Virginia, a son of the late Alvin and Virginia (Hicks) Michael. Mr. Michael was a veteran having served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Hornet, where he received the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Following the Navy, Jim resided in Washington D.C. and then Welch, West Virginia where he worked as a pressman for the Welch Newspaper. Since 2000 he has made his home in Atlantic Mine. On March 1, 2001, James was united in marriage to the former Sandra Taavola. He enjoyed writing short stories, woodworking, and electrical projects.
