James D. Mountjoy, 78, a resident of South Range, passed away at his home August 18, 2026.

He was born on November 5, 1947, in Hancock, a son of the late William and Amanda(Maki) Mountjoy. James was raised in South Range and was a graduate of the Hancock High School.

Mr. Mountjoy was a veteran having served with the United States Navy.

Following the service James moved to New York and began a career in advertising working with Time Magazine. He returned to Make his home in South Range to help care for his mother in her older years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister Virginia Long, his brother William Henry Mountjoy and nephew Steven Mountjoy.

Surviving members include his nieces Sharron Smith-Renner and Karen Mountjoy as well as other nephews and cousins.

James's family would like to thank Sam and Joleen Jenkins for opening their hearts and helping looking after Jim and treating him like he was a part of their family for the past few years.

A private graveside service for James will be held in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.
