Obituary of James Robert Williams Hancock James R. Williams Sr., 85, a resident of Hancock passed away Saturday Morning June 2, 2012, at the Cypress Manor where he had been a patient for the past few weeks. Jim was born on July 13, 1926, to the late Lillian (DesRochers) and Montague Williams. Jim served in the navy during World War II aboard the USS Kula Gulf, CVE108. Before beginning his 35 year career with Upper Peninsula Power Company, retiring in 1994, he worked for Cash and Carry Lumber and Horner Flooring. Jim was also a 25 year member of the Hancock Fire Department, serving as Training Officer, Captain of Equipment and "Santa's Helper". He served on the Hancock City Council as well. In 1978, he married Mary Pruner and she preceded him in death in 2008. Also preceding him in death were his parents and his sister Marge Knight. Jim is survived by his children: Janet McKellar of LasCruces, NM, James (Dawn carlborn) Williams Jr. of Hancock, Carolyn (Andy Parker) Williams of Hancock, and Scott Williams of Hancock. His grandchildren: Danielle Mulheron, Angel Solis, Todd McKeller, April Acosta and Julene Thomas; His brother John (Patricia) Williams of Houghton. Along with several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. A prayer service for Jim will be held 7:00 pm Tuesday June 5, 2012, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Tuesday June 5 from 5:00 pm until time of services at the funeral Home. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to the Hancock Fire Department 900 Ethel Ave., Hancock, MI 49930.
