Obituary of James Zito ChassellJames P. Zito, 85, a resident of Chassell, passed away Tuesday morning, December 28, 2010, at Marquette General Hospital.He was born on April 24, 1925, in Chicago, IL, a son of the late James V. and Charlotte (Roeske) Zito. Jim graduated from Lane Technical High School, Chicago, Illinois in 1943.Mr. Zito then enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp specializing in electronics , communications and radar. This led to a lifelong interest in amateur radio and he was proud of the fact that he was able to obtain his 2 meter license in his 70's.Following his time in the service, Jim returned to Chicago and began working for Bell & Howell as a machinist, retiring in 1986.In 1949, he was united in marriage to the former Esther Stone. Together, the couple raised two sons in the Chicago area and in 1986 moved to the Chassell area for retirement.Mr. Zito was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell, was active with the Chassell Lions Club, was on the zoning board for Chassell Township, and was very active with V.F.W. Post #6507 of Chassell, where he was a past Chaplain and past Adjutant.Preceding him in death were his son James A. Zito, his parents, his sister Irene Schlinder and a close friend from childhood Ralph Kornack.Surviving are: His son; Thomas (Catherine) Zito of Franklin Park, IL His grandchildren; Paula (Matt) Baysinger, Johnathon Zito, Janet Zito & Michael Zito.Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousinsServices for Jim will be held 11 am Monday, January 3, 2011, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. Ron Strobel to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery.Friends may call on Sunday, January 2, 2011, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Chassell from 4 to 7 pm and on Monday from 10 am until time of services at the Church.
