Obituary of Janet Hauswirth Hancock Township Janet (Rick) Hauswirth, 65, a resident of the Hancock Canal passed away Friday evening February 13, 2015, at the UP Health Systems-Marquette following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born on May 11, 1949, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Toivo and Anna (Tiura) Moilanen. Janet graduated from Hancock Central High School with the class of 1967. She then attended Michigan Technological University. On November 9, 1969, she was united in marriage to Richard Hauswirth. The couple resided in Hancock where they raised two children. For the past twenty five years they have made their home on the Hancock Canal. Janet had worked for the Red Owl Grocery Store in Hancock, Suomi College, and Dale's Flower Shop. For the past ten years she has been working at the St. Vincent DePaul Store in Hancock as a clerk and assistant manager. Mrs. Hauswirth was a very active lifelong member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock. She enjoyed working on craft projects, gardening and decorating. She also loved to be Nana to her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their different events. Janet was also very proud of her Finnish heritage and showed her Sisu through her difficult times. Preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers Gordon and Robert and an infant sister Nancy. DJ Rasner to officiate. Friends may call on Friday February 20, 2015, from 10 am until time of services at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests memorials be given Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or the Omega House in memory of Janet Hauswirth.
