Obituary of Jason Mikkola Hancock Jason Douglas Mikkola, 33, of Hancock died unexpectedly from a boating accident on Monday July 15. Jason was born on July 4, 1980 and was fittingly termed "firecracker" by his family members for his outgoing and strong-willed personality.Jason was the youngest son of Ronald and Mary Beth Mikkola of Hancock. He graduated from Hancock High School in 1999 and attended Northwestern Community College in Traverse City. Jason pursed a career in the insurance business and was most recently employed at the Tervo Agency in Hancock, where he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, Oliver and father, Ron who had owned and ran the agency for two generations.Jason enjoyed participating in sports as a youth, especially hockey and golf and remained an avid golfer his entire life. He really enjoyed the great outdoors including hunting, fishing, and boating. Jason will be remembered most for his fun and kind-hearted nature, always willing to help a friend in need.Jason is survived by his parents, Roanld and Mary Beth; brothers Daniel (Trina) of Houghton and Michael (Lisa) of Hancock; and sister Julie Mikkola (fiancé Jeremy Klund) of North Branch, MN. He is also survived by his numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother David Mikkola of Hancock and grandparents; Oliver (Gertrude) Mikkola of Hancock and Donald (Margaret) Carlson of Hancock.Memorials may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock where Jason served as an usher, or to the charity of one's choice. Visitation will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock on Friday July 19, from 2pm to 5 pm. The funeral service will be held at 5 pm, also at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock with Rev. D.J. Rasner officiating.
